Dude of the Week: iPhone 5

This week’s Dude of the Week is the most robotic selection yet. No, it’s not Plex from Yo Gabba Gabba.  The just announced iPhone 5 is Dudely because women want it and men want to be like it. Having caused millions of people to wait eagerly for a year is a pretty hardcore Dude.
The size difference is, uh, almost noticeable.
So what if the screen is just half an inch bigger than the previous iPhones. Who cares if Apple has to create ridiculous statements like “iPhone 5 is 20% thinner than iPhone 4S”.  That sounds much more impressive than saying it’s 1.4 millimeters thinner, which pretty much no one without a ruler would probably notice.  It’s also better than saying it’s 0.055118 inches thinner, or roughly the thickness of a stick of Juicy Fruit.

Analysts have already predicted Apple will sell ten million iPhone 5s in the first 10 days and potentially 50 million by the end of the year.  Perhaps that will lead to greater profits which might someday allow an Apple executive to buy a pair of pants that aren’t jeans.

I’m not bitter because I bought an iPhone 4S when it was released a year ago. I’ll soon have basically the same software. I’ll just see it a little smaller than people with new ones, or one less Angry Bird at a time. Either way, people have been dying for this product, so now they can all finally be happy to buy one.  Until the even-better iPhone 6 comes out . . .

Do you plan to get an iPhone 5?  Why or Why Not?

Dude of the Week: The Hooded Queen

I've never understood why Great Britain still has a royal family. No one really knows what they do all day, yet people revere them and they are very rich. I guess they are sort of like the British version of the Kardashians.

Though the monarchy is pretty much a waste, I found a picture online that immediately gave me my Dude of the Week idea. Queen Elizabeth II, who is 86 years old, was spotted cruising the streets in her Range Rover while wearing a hoodie this week. If I didn't know any better, I'd think she was probably coming from a collaboration with Kanye West.  Either way, she is pretty hardcore. Especially after parachuting into the stadium during the Olympics. Given this recent streak of behavior, Queen Elizabeth II is my Dude of the Week.

No word on if she was sipping on Gin & juice.

Dude of the Week: Alex Morgan

By now you know that I'm not an Olympics fan. But I did see something a couple days ago that really impressed me, and inspired my choice for this week's Dude of the Week.

Soccer isn't my favorite sport, actually I think it's boring. But I saw the last 10 minutes of the USA vs. Canada women's soccer game and was blown away by the game-winning header with 30 seconds remaining in extra-time by Alex Morgan. Apparently she hadn't been living up to her reputation so far in the tournament.
Uh, I'd say that goal changed everything.

And to top Alex's Gold medal, she is also the Dude of the Week.

Dude of the Week: James Yount

Welcome to the inaugural Dude of the Week!  Each week I'll feature a Dude that I think is worth talking about. It might be a real person, a fictional character or just a Dudely image or graphic that catches my eye.

This week's Dude of the Week is James Yount. James is an amazing graphic designer who just so happened to have designed my new logo. He is uber-creative and also a new father himself.  And we used to goof around together in Physics for Dummies class in high school, so you know he's a great Dude.

If you need any graphic design work done, I urge you to check out James' portfolio and contact him at once.
Don't pass Go or collect $200.
You can also follow him on Twitter for 140 characters' worth of wit.
And make sure you tell him that The Dude of the House sent ya!

So what did James create for me? I gave him minimal direction, yet he came up with exactly what I was looking for. Try to beat that!

If you haven't seen it already, my logo is now visible on my blog & Facebook page for your eyes' enjoyment:

On that note, I'd like to congratulate James Yount on being the first Dude of the Week!
